Recently, as part of the documentary series Climax Change is currently developing, we embarked on an emotional and insightful journey into one of Panama's most isolated communities and saw the extraordinary impact of healthcare delivered by boat.
Deep within the remote coastal communities of Panama, healthcare is not something people can simply access with a short trip to the nearest clinic. For many families, reaching medical care means navigating a dense jungle, travelling long distances by boat, and overcoming extraordinary logistical challenges.
This is where Floating Doctors comes in.
Floating Doctors is one of Climax Change's partner foundations, delivering essential healthcare to isolated communities where it can be difficult or impossible to access. Through our 100% profit donation model, we contribute directly to this mission, with an annual donation of 52,000 condoms that support family planning, prevent sexually transmitted diseases, and provide reproductive health education in remote regions of Panama.
In the second episode of our documentary series Coming Together, Climax Change founder (Maarten van der Kuijl) travels to the Ensenada community to witness a multi-day medical clinic firsthand.
Here, he sat in on sex education sessions where young people openly discuss topics that can change the course of their futures. He meets pregnant women receiving vital medical check-ups and learns about the challenges these communities face regarding early pregnancies and limited healthcare access.
But perhaps the most powerful moments come from speaking with patients who underwent eye surgery only weeks before. Before the operations, some had become nearly blind. Walking through the jungle was dangerous and many daily tasks had become impossible. Now, they speak with emotion about seeing clearly again, regaining independence, and rediscovering their lives.
